I don’t know about you but it doesn’t seem like 20 years since the turn of the Millennium and all that went with NYE of 1999! But, here we are 20 years on and life, in many ways, is unrecognisable even from two decades past.
If you’re old enough, you may well have just started using email 20 years ago and yet now, it’s hard to keep up with the many different social media and communication channels, not to mention that some estimates say that c 75% of emails are opened today on mobile devices!
Of course, life is different today compared to 20 years previously and probably none more so than in the business world. That said, your Chamber of Commerce remains determined to stay ‘current’ and relevant to businesses, both large and small, in Uckfield.
Our membership today is 240 strong, which is more than some larger East Sussex towns and we continue to attract good numbers to our regular meetings. For me, it’s important that we give you, the businesses in the town, what you want. Our speakers at meetings will always address broad business issues with a local flavour so that you’re better informed.
Twenty years ago, I’m not too sure that the word ‘networking’ was in our business vocabulary but now, there’s a large choice. At your local Chamber, we facilitate networking at least monthly within our meetings, bringing like-minded business people together. Being a member of the Chamber doesn’t guarantee you additional business and yet, it does provide you with an additional platform to network with others.
New for 2020, our first meeting of the year on Thursday 16 January, at East Sussex National Golf Club, members will have the opportunity of winning a year’s free Chamber membership but you must attend the meeting, to have a chance of winning; as they say… ‘you have to be in it, to win it!’ – So, members, do prioritise the meeting if you can and if you’re not a member, there’s still time to get involved; simply give me a call or drop me an email… It’s never been easier!
Wishing all Uckfield businesses every success in 2020!
