Small and micro businesses within the Wealden District are now able to submit their details to apply for a grant from the Discretionary ‘top-up’ Grant (phase two). Please read the policy and check the eligibility criteria before applying.

Phase two applications will be accepted from 8am on Monday 13 July, and will close at 5pm on Monday 27 July 2020.  Please note that the Council’s local discretion priorities, differ from those of the phase one scheme.

The Government have asked that Wealden prioritise businesses with fixed property-related costs which can demonstrate that they have suffered a significant fall in income due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Small businesses in shared offices or other flexible work spaces. Examples could include units in industrial parks, science parks and incubators which do not have their own business rates assessment.
  • Regular market traders with fixed building costs, such as rent, who do not have their own business rates assessment.
  • Bed and Breakfasts which pay Council Tax instead of business rates.
  • Charity properties in receipt of charitable business rates relief which would otherwise have been eligible for Small Business Rates Relief or Rural Rate Relief.

We know there are a number of small businesses in Wealden who despite being eligible, are yet to apply for this grant despite best efforts to contact them. Please spread the word amongst the Uckfield business community wherever possible during the course of the next two weeks.
