Adult courses here in Uckfield…
A simple definition of lifelong learning is that it is “development after formal education: the continuing development of knowledge and skills that people experience after formal education and throughout their lives” (Encarta, 2008).
How true this is.
ACRES recognises and celebrates the desire of local adults to continue developing knowledge and skills for the purpose of enjoyment, self-fulfilment, meeting like-minded people right on their doorstep.
Just as learners are varied, so are the subjects they wish to learn and therefore ACRES offers a range of Art, Creative Skills, New Knowledge, Languages, Health & Fitness courses alongside an accredited programme of Maths, English, ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) and First Aid.
Courses take place in and around the town including at Uckfield College and the Civic Centre, daytime, evening and some Saturdays.
What are the benefits of Lifelong Learning?
Learning new skills opens the mind to different perspectives, expanding through curiosity our ability to think and form individual opinions.
Gaining new experiences, meeting new people, adapting to change, all help us to train our brains to handle a wide range of challenges.
Getting involved makes us active contributors in society which in turn makes our local community a better place.
All these factors combine to keep us healthy, happy and challenged individuals.
