On Sunday 22December, Chamber member, Children with Cancer Fund (Polegate) took a group of 220 individuals they support to the Devonshire Park Theatre Production of Snow White. The cast of the panto were incredible, and the children all had a brilliant time with boos, cheers and laughter aplenty.

Immediately after the panto all the families made their way to the Winter Gardens which had been transformed into a magnificent party venue. There were treats and activities around every corner, including balloon modelling, face painting, crafts, a photo-booth and even the chance to meet with a variety of exotic creatures. The cast of the pantomime also came over to the party and spent time chatting with the families, dancing and having photos taken.

The main event, which the children had all been waiting for, was a Santa’s Grotto crammed full of presents, following very successful toy appeals. It was a truly joyful moment to see the children walking into the grotto with excitement and awe on their faces. Heartfelt thanks go to everyone who donated toys and gifts and to the event sponsor, Gaby Hardwicke Foundation.

It was a magical day for the children, providing much needed respite from the realities of childhood cancer. For many of the families supported by Children with Cancer Fund, events such as these are valuable opportunities for the children to feel normal and forget about the challenges they face. They provide a safe environment where children are not judged and everyone in attendance understands the devastating impact of childhood cancer and the day-to-day effects of having a seriously ill child.

Children with Cancer Fund’s programs of care and support alleviate the emotional and social challenges faced by families dealing with childhood cancer across East Sussex, Brighton and Hove. To continue their work, they urgently need individuals and companies looking to enhance their social corporate responsibility to commit to making regular donations throughout the year. It is only with the support of regular donors that they can host such magical events again this year for the children they support.

There are a variety of packages available for regular donors but any amount, however small, is greatly appreciated and all funds will directly support local children with cancer. For more information, visit www.childrenwithcancerfund.org.uk/donations or contact the office on 01323 488561.
